There’s something about life opening up again that calls for adding a touch of fun and whimsy back into your wardrobe. Enter the statement short! Sure, summer shorts are functional items designed to ward off heat. They help you move freely, whether cherry picking in the backyard or venturing out on vacation. To begin, I know not everyone is in the shorts fan club. It’s not always easy to find a flattering (and comfortable) pair. For example, 9 times out of 10… I choose dresses over shorts. That said, 2021 is bringing us a plethora of statement shorts for summer to choose from! Long shorts (Bermuda styles are trending), short shorts (my personal preference at 4’11), and such a wide range of materials. There is something for every taste and preference. Best of all, each can look elevated with nothing more than a white t-shirt or tank.

I’ll dive into my top 10 list next, but first I want to tell you about the summer statement shorts that made it into my closet. These scallop overlay crochet shorts are just exquisite! The fabrication is a real work of art… and they are surprisingly affordable given the level of detail ($39).

I found them at Chicwish, one of my favorite online brands for pieces with uniquely feminine flair. (I talk in further detail about shopping the brand in this blog post). These shorts are fully lined, have pockets, and offer an elasticized high waist. This elastic waist is key for my petite friends because it gives you the option to fold the waistband over for a shorter rise.

You can also snag these in white and black. They come in dual sizing, I’m wearing the S/M. Best of all, you can machine wash these on a cold/gentle cycle. Note: This differs from what the website lists (it says hand wash). Do not machine dry.

10. Finally, a perfect belted linen-blend in girly terracotta! Perfectly fitted at the waist area, photos don’t do these Abercrombie shorts justice. You need to put them on!
