While I will always find it a bit odd that a federal holiday to honor our fallen heroes has somehow become a shopping extravaganza, Memorial Day is now without a doubt one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Appliances, furniture, clothing—you name it, it’s on sale!
On one hand, I get it. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. We’re all itching to enjoy some sun and fun, while tossing a few burgers on the grill. However, as a journalist, I have covered enough military funerals and deaths to witness how painful Memorial Day can be for military families. It is not a mere day off work. It is more a time for commemoration, than celebration.
In fact, simply wishing someone a “happy” Memorial Day can be awkward (I talk more about why in this post). On the flip side, I’ve also talked to military families who are pleased to see the joy and revelry their loved ones fought to protect. In that spirit, I wanted to share a quote that’s a great reminder of what this holiday is really about… before we dive into sales.
“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.” — Franklin Roosevelt
Let’s be grateful. Let’s take time to reflect. Then, if you have a reason to shop this weekend—do it! This year, you might just help a business stay afloat. There are so many livelihoods on the edge due to COVID-19. Here are some a few of the retailers offering deals + the codes you need to snag them…

I wanted to get a bit more specific regarding the deals at The Mint Julep Boutique because I recently styled a few of its looks. This is one of my go-to brands for unique, girly, feminine styles. It always has great pricing, but Memorial Day weekend really ups the ante. Right now, much of the site is up to 75 percent off. This includes many of my spring and summer favorites.
If you follow my blog, you probably already know I’m a dress girl. Predictably, I was excited to see Mint Julep Boutique has tons of darling dresses on sale, including the fanciful floral number (pictured earlier) and this versatile babydoll style. It’s ideal for summer — the relaxed fit feels so light, airy, and comfortable. The fabric is 100 percent cotton and it is fully lined with pockets (also in white and red).
However, I also tried to diversify my Memorial Day Sale suggestions because I know some of you enjoy more casual styles. Here are a few ideas to get you started! From sweaters, to shoes, to accessories, it’s all on sale…
