What’s up with the giveaways?

Someone asked me a question the other day about why bloggers run giveaways, so here’s a bit of background…

These type of contests serve two important purposes. First—and most importantly—they allow bloggers, like me, to say “thanks” for your support. It means so much that you take the time to read my work and interact with me via social media. I know how busy you all are!

Second, they help us reach new and existing audiences. The blogging world is fairly saturated and social media even more so! Content creators spend a lot of time composing useful, entertaining, engaging and informative articles. However, great material doesn’t automatically guarantee our work will be seen.

In the era of algorithms and paid-ads, numbers matter. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook only serve your content to a fraction of your audience. Furthermore, they tend to favor big accounts with significant engagement. When you “like” one of my posts on social media, or leave a comment, you are helping to ensure other people get a chance to see it too! Entering this type of contest does too.
