Ally Shoes Review: Are They Worth It?

You might be able to tell from the photo. I am peachy keen about these block heels. They took me by surprise in the best possible way. You see, my approach to shoes has not always been what you might call foot-friendly. Much like Celine Dion’s viral quote, “When a girl loves her shoes, she will always make them fit” – I’d grab the pretty shoe even if it hurt. I didn’t realize beautiful shoes can feel beautiful too. On the hunt for shoes that offer both style and comfort? Let’s dive into this Ally Shoes review because there’s more to this brand that meets the eye.

Ally Shoes first crossed my radar in my favorite style magazine. As an avid reader of InStyle, I trust their teams’ recommendations. So let’s just say my curiosity was piqued when Ally Shoes made its list of best comfortable block heels.

In fact, the shoe I ended up springing for (the bold block heel) is the very same pair the style mag lauded. Fast Company also sings the brand’s praises, reviewing Ally Shoes as “the most comfortable heels to wear at work.” I had to try Ally for myself.

About Ally Shoes

If you take just one thing away from this Ally Shoes review, here’s the kicker… These shoes feel incredible because Ally’s founder worked hand-in-hand with a podiatric surgeon, Dr. Roxann Clarke, to create them. They focused both on the support and cushioning inside as well as the flexible structure outside, which minimizes the need to “break in” your heels.

In short, the brand is disrupting the footwear industry by intentionally engineering pain-free heels with all the stylish bells and whistles we expect.

As the brand explains, its heels were literally born out of an accident. Company CEO Samantha Dong injured her foot hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. She had a tough time finding pumps she could tolerate – and instead created a better alternative. The cool thing? You’d never know this from the outside. They look just as chic and stylish as their competitors.

How do Ally Shoes fit?

Let’s start this Ally Shoes review with the most important question… Feel and fit

After all, that’s probably what brought you to this page in the first place. Since Ally Shoes are an investment, the brand goes to great lengths to ensure you’re satisfied. As a somewhat shoe-obsessed style creator, I’ve tested and tried many shoe brands in my 7+ years of running this blog.

And let me say this… I have never experienced such attention to detail when it comes to fit.

Not only does Ally Shoes offer a “fit finder” quiz to help identify your perfect size/style, but also a complimentary at-home fitting (which I highly recommend). They’ll send a box with three shoes (based on your quiz and interests) right to your door.

What I appreciate about the brand

  • Inclusive sizing

If you struggle with traditional shoe sizes, Ally Shoes is just what the doctor (or should we say podiatrist) ordered. For instance, if you have really small feet and rarely find footwear that doesn’t slide off, Ally Shoes carries size 4 and narrow widths. While these nude heel inserts are great for preventing slide-off issues, we all want that Cinderella-perfect fit, right?

Maybe you have wider feet or are coping with conditions like bunions? Again, the size inclusivity of Ally Shoes, can help you find total comfort. I wasn’t quite sure where I would fall in Ally’s size range, as I always thought my feet were a bit wide. I tested both the B and C widths, as well as Ally’s half sizes (36.5) and found the 36B was my sweet spot.

  • Incredible internal comfort

Much like your favorite sneaker, Ally Shoes have an ergonomic internal support structure with padding in three different pressure points. This helps you feel stable and balanced. And the comfort lasts all day! On days when I teach 5+ hours and need to carry heavy camera equipment, these get the job done.

  • Nude shades for every skin tone

Another element I want to mention in this Ally Shoes review is its range of nude color options. This brand, founded in 2018, was one of the first to carry nudes for every skin tone. With a diverse team of women at the helm, that attention to detail is something I very much appreciate.

Comfort to the Max: Ally Shoes Review

Bold Block Heel

The first Ally Shoes style I tried is its Bold Block Heel in Peach Fuzz. While it comes in 30 different colors (no, I’m not exaggerating) and I normally opt for neutral shoes, this cheery shade was calling my name. It just oozes happiness!

The heel is handcrafted with a lambskin leather upper, Italian leather sole, and suede lining. I love the tapered shape of the sleek heel. Furthermore, the 3″ (75mm) height is high enough to give my 4’11 frame a visual lift without the shoe feeling unwieldy.

For many of us, the biggest pain point with pointed-toe heels is the pinch factor. Even when you don’t have a wide foot, your feet can swell throughout the day. This can cause quite a bit of pain across the widest part of your foot. I did not experience any of this with my Ally shoes.

As soon as I slipped my feet inside, I knew this was a shoe I will wear a lot. Consequently, I’ve now got this Bossy Beige colorway in my cart.

Lower Block Heel

The second style I want to talk about in this Ally Shoes review is the Lower Block Heel. Although I have great love for classic pumps, I spend most of my day dashing from one classroom to the next on Purdue’s campus. Block heels, particularly lower styles like this one, are much more practical. I’ve caught many a stiletto heel in gaps in the sidewalk (and since learned my lesson).

Not only is this one built like a tank, but it’s also beautiful. The cap toe detail adds significant pizzazz. And the 2″ heel is a great option if you favor a more moderate heel height. This is the shoe I would recommend to ladies who want to wear a heel, but don’t typically feel confident in them. It’s a great way to ease yourself into heel-wearing.

Are Ally Shoes Worth It?

You may have already guessed my answer by what’s we’ve talked about above. However, let’s dive into my overall verdict. Ally Shoes are definitely an investment piece, but a smart one. They’re beautiful, comfortable, and durable. If you wear heels on a regular basis, you will get you money’s worth with this brand.

They’re the type that will last year for years to come. They’ve quickly become the shoe I reach for first, which tells you they keep feet happy.

Ally Shoes vs Sarah Flint

Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed a lot of similarities in my description of Ally Shoes to another brand I’ve raved about, Sarah Flint. You can read my full Sarah Flint Review here and my specific look at Sarah Flint wedding shoes here. Yes, it is a fair comparison and one we should talk about.

Both fall into the luxury shoe realm offer impeccable quality, style, and comfort. They’re both handcrafted, offer you more room in the toe box (ensuring happy feet), and have extra padding.

Which would I choose if I could only recommend one? It depends on your situation, but I’m leaning toward Ally. Here’s why…

As you can see here, a classic pump from Ally is $325. Sarah Flint’s Perfect Pump is $550. They’re both incredible shoes, but have so many similarities I’m not sure I can justify the $200+ price difference. Sarah Flint’s prices have crept up since I first added them to my closet. Consequently, in most situations, Ally is the smarter buy.

When would I choose Sarah Flint over Ally Shoes? If you have the budget and a special occasion for it, Sarah Flint wins out as the perfect event shoe. The lines are so sleek and sultry. You would definitely cut an elegant figure rocking a Sarah Flint pump.
